Crown Street, Crumlin; the main change to a still-recognisable Crown Street (apart from the vanished Viaduct....) is that now it's a dead end, whereas at this point it ran from the Newbridge end, straight through to the shops in Crumlin, emerging by the Wexa club. A 'still' from the 1966 Hollywood film 'Arabesque', starring Gregory Peck and the stunning Sophia Loren; this is at the end of the film where Peck's character drops a ladder from the viaduct into the villain's helicopter's rotor blades, sending it crashing into the river Ebbw below..... notice how the river was bright and toxic orange, which it routinely went at certain times every day! In the film, the helicopter crashes into a much cleaner stretch of water, definitely not the Ebbw, via the miracle of editing. In the background you can see the old Crumlin Bridge, the Kayfield, a section of Crumlin's shops, including HH Sheppard's Chemists, and the by-pass is very noticeable by its absence.
